ASFM
Monitor (brochure
1mb pdf format)
The
ASFM Monitor is AQFlow's newest product. It is a stand alone, non-intrusive
system which is permanently installed in the intake at low-head,
short intake plants, and provides continuous, reliable, repeatable, real-time
monitoring of turbine discharge. It can also be used for the detection
of trashrack blockage and penstock rupture.
Features
of the ASFM Monitor
- Cost
effective support of plant and system-level optimization models.
- Non-intrusive,
no headloss and no vulnerability to debris impact.
- Long
term operational monitoring of turbines.
- Can be
set up for single or multi-bay installation, with up to 30 paths distributed among 1, 2 or 3 bays.
- Real-time
output of total discharge provided on site or to remote locations in simple, user friendly displays and outputs.
- Detection
of operational problems, such as deterioration of turbine performance due to aging or trash rack blockage.
- Virtually
maintenance free - attractive alternative to Winter-
Kennedy taps.
ASL
AQFlow offers a complete installation and commissioning service
package, including installation of the underwater and surface components, and
carrying out the Monitor calibration using the ASFM Advantage temporarily
installed in the gate or stoplog slots. The ASFM Monitor is backed up
by a complete one-year warranty on parts and labor.

ASFM
Advantage (brochure
251 kb ~ pdf format)
The
ASFM Advantage provides the hydroelectric industry with a
reliable, accurate and effective method of measuring discharge at low-head hydro plants with short or irregular intakes, where accurate
discharge measurement has traditionally been difficult. Overall measurement costs are significantly lower
than with competitive technologies, particularly at plants with multiple intakes. |
 |
The
ASFM Advantage
is used for acceptance testing, field performance testing and
determination of optimum settings for maximizing efficiency
of turbines. |
Features of ASFM Advantage
- Cost-effective support of plant and system level optimization models.
- Non-intrusive,
no headloss and no vulnerability to debris impact.
- No moving parts, no mechanical maintenance and no calibration.
- Can be
setup for single or multi-bay installation, with up to 30 paths distributed among 1, 2 or 3 bays. The
same equipment and frames can be used at all intakes at a
multi-unit plant.
- Can be
adapted for fixed-path or profiling operation.
- Discharge
results available immediately after completion of measurements.
- Offers
simple, user-friendly displays and outputs.
- Can be operated remotely or locally.

ASFM
Advantage Rental
In addition to sales,
AQFlow
offers ASFM Advantage on a lease / rental basis, again with a full
range of support services, as per clients requirements.

Services
ASFM products related services
Our ASFM was specifically developed for absolute and relative flow
measurements in the short intakes of low-head turbines. Depending on the
client's requirements, the ASFM is offered on a purchase or lease basis,
with installation, commissioning, operation assistance, technical support and on-site training included as required.

CFD Modeling related services
Computational
Fluid Dynamics (CFD), is a branch of
Fluid Mechanics that resolves fluid flow problems numerically.
The main attraction in using CFD resides in its ability to overcome the difficulties
encountered within physical models or in situ field experiments
to measure flow quantities in inaccessible flow regions.
CFD
can investigate physical fluid systems and provide large amounts
of data more effectively, with more flexibility and speed
than any physical experimental procedures. CFD is thus able to reduce and possibly
eliminate such costly test programs.
By combining direct field velocity and turbulence measurements with the ASFM Advantage with the CFD modeling, ASL AQFlow has gained better understanding of fluid physics in the short intakes of low-head plants, particularly for unusual intake configurations.
Examples of CFD studies at hydro power plants and spillways:

Environment related services
Forebay circulation studies and fish survival and habitat studies are offered through ASL Environmental Sciences Inc.
