Flow around Automotive Vehicles

A three dimensional study was carried out in an automotive application. The effect of drafting vehicles on performance/safety issues (such as drag calculation, distribution of downforces, etc ...) was assessed. The effect of the proximity of the body car to the ground has been investigated, as well. The top Figures show a close up of the mesh used on the vehicles bodies, tires and ground. The bottom Figures display the mean pressure distribution on the car body and tires. The velocity field is shown at a selected middle section between the two cars with the mean streamlines distribution.
